The company MengCong brought to the platform Kickstarter a new device Wall Walkers Backpack, which allows you to escape from a high-rise building, literally running down its wall. It is intended for self-rescue from high-rise structures in case of fire, flood or man-made disaster.
The Wall Walker consists of a brake axis, a cable drum, a steel cable, three planetary gears and a handbrake. All parts of the rescue system are placed in a compact backpack.
In case of distress, it is necessary to put on a backpack and fasten the upper and lower buckles. Then pull out the carbine, which is at the top of the backpack, and attach it to any reliable object inside the room (for this purpose, a steel loop can be pre-embedded in the room). After that it is necessary to open or break the window and get out on the facade of the building.
The Wall Walker brake system will provide a smooth descent at a speed of about 1.5 meters per second, even in the case of free fall. The system is additionally equipped with a manual brake, which allows you to stop at any time of descent. The Wall Walker can use three different coils with a cable length of 25, 50 and 80 meters to choose from. The whole system weighs about 10 kg and can withstand up to 135 kilograms.
An important aspect: during the descent the user's hands remain free - they can hold equipment or pets.
To date, Wall Walker has three patents for the solutions used in it. Deliveries of finished devices will begin in August this year, and the price of the model with the longest (80 m) cable will be 450 dollars.
